Rodent Chester

Chester, my male rodent hamster, has eye discharge

I left my hamster in his cage over the weekend 2 weeks ago and i didnt clean the cage before i left. when i got back he had an eye infection his eye was crusty and had puss and it hasnt gone away. i clean it with warm water and salt as i read that online. he is also making noises as if he has a cold . and hes 3 to 4 years now and i know they dont live long. i just feel horrible and blame myself . and i just want to make the rest of his life comfortable till he passes. is there anything i can do besides what i have been doing.. is it worth it to bring him to the vet ?

It is advisable to put more temperature as they are very sensitive to cold. Buy Tobrex at the pharmacy and put a droplet in each eye every 8 hours for 5-7 days. (Always clean with serum before putting eye drops). If the noises continue or get worse, take your pet to your veterinarian because he probably needs an antibiotic. Hamsters do not usually live more than 4 or 5 years but by the symptoms you describe if treated properly, he still has some years to live.
