My friend rescued him from someone who was going to drown him but he couldn't keep him so I had him, when I first had him he used to bark when I walked in the room but now he seems just just lay in bed until I interact with him, when I'm back from work he loves a play and he loves a fuss and loves his food and drink but he plain and simple won't bark... he's healthy as far as I know to and he's loved and card for, it's just confused me why he isn't barking, any advice?
It is likely that Ozzie barked at first out of fear or mistrust, since he did not know you and was in a new, to him unknown, environment. After some time with you, and seeing that you are no threat to him, he has gained confidence and that is why he has gone from barking to playing with you when you come home.
Many abandoned or ill-treated dogs show fear of strangers. Barking is one of the manifestations of that fear, as the dog barks to try to push away the negative stimulus. When there is nothing to fear, it no longer makes sense to bark. in conclusion, the fact that Ozzie has stopped barking at you and is showing a friendly behaviour is an excellent sign.
All the best for you and Ozzie.
