Dog Birdie

I have doubts about the behavior of Birdie, my female dog german shorthaired pointer

She is being acting crazy during three days. Doesn’t stop crying specially a night. She think some of her toys are her babies. She get the same behavior like three times a year. She goes from one place to other like desperate. She destroyed anything that she can. We left her at home and almost destroys the house. Damage to doors, clothes, furniture. Normally it is not aggressive but it seems that there is not place for her now. We exercise her enough , because she is very active but now does not want to run outside.

Please help telling me if there are any kind of medication can put her mind and body relax.

Sudden changes in dog's behavior are usually associated with a medical problem and feeling pain. The first step should be to rule out any medical causes before considering it could be a behavior problem (prolonged stress and anxiety, fear, reaction to external stimulations, etc).

You should contact your vet to rule out medical problems.

In case of a behavior problem, we recommend to contact a clinical ethologist (animal behaviour specialist) who will examine your dog's case in person and, according to determined diagnosis, propose the most appropriate treatment.

All the best,
